What is Goodwill’s mission?
Goodwill Industries, through the power of work, will enhance the quality and dignity of life for individuals, families and communities. We will strive to overcome barriers to opportunity for people in need and facilitate empowerment, self-help and service.

Our goal is give everyone the opportunity to live a better life through the power of work. The majority of our programs are vocationally directed, to encourage each individual – regardless of their age or education – to find independence and accomplishment through their own effort. We believe the power of work can change the lives of individuals and families, and can even transform communities.

How many people does Goodwill serve?
In the New York/New Jersey region we serve more than 110,000 people each year.

Why does Goodwill have retail stores?
Approximately 1/3 of Goodwill’s annual operating budget comes through our retail operations, lowering our reliance on government, corporations and other sources for funds. The revenues (including the generous donations that the public makes to us) support our programs. We believe in the power of work and practice it ourselves.

Our retail stores also provide an important opportunity for the people we serve; jobs in our stores are often part of training programs for people with disabilities and other special needs.
