Last December, Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey inaugurated two programs to provide job preparation and placement services for U.S. Veterans and other dislocated workers. Goodwill developed these programs to address the employment needs of New Yorkers affected by the economic downturn. The GW Vets and Dislocated Workers Programs are funded by the New York City Department of Small Business Services through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
To qualify, Veterans must have low or no income and present their certificate of release from active duty (DD 214.) Goodwill’s Dislocated Workers program assists individuals who were terminated, laid-off, or formerly self-employed; are no longer supported by a family member; or former employer closed or relocated.
The Goodwill Programs provide career counseling and job readiness assistance. Services include resume preparation; mock interviews; cover letter preparation; access to computers, telephones and fax machines; and job development and placement assistance primarily focused in the Healthcare industry. In addition, funds are available for other training.
