Employment Services and Adaptive Technology Offered to Residents of 8 Counties
The JVS Goodwill Career Center opened on September 9 to provide comprehenseive employment services for Northern New Jersey residents who are deaf or have a hearing loss to help them become more independent and self-reliant. Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey partnered with the Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest to open the first Northern New Jersey Regional Deafness Assisted Technology/Career Center at Goodwill’s location in Harrison, NJ.
The state-of-the-art facility serves residents of Northern New Jersey in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.
At the Center, hhearing impaired individuals can test the most advanced adaptive technology available and receive Job Placement and Job Coaching services to help them obtain and maintain employment.
A team of mobile professionals deliver services to users in their own community. These include vocational assessment and counseling; employment readiness services; specialized job placement services; technology assessment and training; and, information and referral services. The state’s Vocational organization will provide additional services according to need and eligibility. Vocational skills training; purchase of assistive technology items; work adjustment training; job coaching; and follow-along services.
The JVS Goodwill Career Center is one of three sites created and funded by the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Adaptive technology assistance is provided by the New Jersey Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
