Can you create a killer Halloween costume for $10 or less?
On Sunday, October 25th, Goodwill Industries of Greater NY and Northern NJ is throwing a Low-Cost Costume-Making and Clothing Swap Party from 3 p.m. to7 p.m. at Boxcar Lounge (168 Avenue B, between East 10th Street and East 11th Street.) Admission is either one bag of gently-used, freshly-laundered clothes, or a $5 donation to support Goodwill’s work training programs.
Local designers, fashion bloggers and crafters will be on-hand to help out with ideas. Everyone will be able to take home a bag full of goodies needed to make their own costume, just in time for Halloween.
Goodwill is also currently holding a Low-Cost Costume design Photo Fashion Show competition on its Facebook Fan Page through Saturday, October 24. Participants can post photos of their own Low-Cost Costumes from years past. A Good Look, Goodwill’s Retail blog, will feature the most popular and offer them a chance to guest blog as a Low-Cost Costume expert as Halloween nears.
At Goodwill’s Low-Cost Costume competition and swap participants will join their neighbors to learn a few crafting skills, and make a one-of-a-kind costume from items no one was wearing anymore. This is Goodwill’s attempt to help New Yorkers get creative this Halloween and to avoid sending more unwanted items to landfills.
