This program provides direct placement assistance to individuals referred by VESID who are ready for competitive employment, but need help finding appropriate employment opportunities. Available in all boroughs.

Targeted Assistance Grant (TAG)
Like Goodwill’s Refugee Social Services Program (RSSP), this program offers career planning, training and placement to refugees and those who have obtained political asylum here, with a special goal of moving participants from public assistance to employment. Located in the Bronx and Brooklyn, TAG provides direct services to refugees through job placements, resulting in economic self-sufficiency. In addition to all RSSP services, TAG participants receive intensive computer training.

WeCare
WeCare is a Long Island City, Queens-based program to help people with disabilities move from public assistance into jobs.

Begin Employment, Gain Independence Now (BEGIN)
BEGIN is a welfare-to-work program that specializes in providing basic job skills and literacy instruction for adults 19 years and older who lack a high school diploma or GED. Sponsored by the New York City Human Resources Administration, BEGIN aims to create a career pathway for public assistance recipients. The program provides two days of basic education and GED instruction combined with three days of work experience. Other services include assessment, counseling, case management and referral. HRA referral is required.
