This program provides comprehensive testing and evaluation to determine vocational strengths, limitations, work readiness and overall direction. Using the results of the evaluation, Goodwill counselors help participants develop individual plans.

Supported Employment
Supported Employment works to find competitive employment positions for people with severe disabilities. Once on the job, Goodwill provides one-on-one job coaching to help each individual become as independent as possible to succeed. Goodwill’s Supported Employment Division works with many disability types. These include persons with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental illness, visual impairment, hearing impairment and many others.

Pre-Vocational Services
These services for the mentally retarded/developmentally disabled are available at our Astoria headquarters in Queens. The program works on pre-vocational abilities such as dexterity, concentration and interpersonal skills.

Day Habilitation
This Brooklyn program provides activities designed to help individuals integrate into communities. Clients learn work-related skills at nonpaying activity sites to help build their independence, improve their interpersonal skills and develop other positive behaviors.

Transitional Opportunity Program
For mentally retarded/developmentally disabled students who are aging out of special education, this program helps them transition from the world of school, which they have come to understand, into the world of work. Available in Astoria, the program includes career exploration, travel training, introduction to work and work experiences. Education and computer training services are also available.

Work Adjustment Training
In order to get and keep a job, there are basic interpersonal and work skills that one must learn. This program offers work experience in Goodwill’s production area or retail stores, as well as in other community-based nonprofit organizations.

Extended Rehabilitation Services
These services offer participants the opportunity to gain work experience and earn money in Goodwill’s on-site industries – contributed goods, industrial contracts and porter/maintenance – while receiving case management services.

Job Readiness, Pre-Placement and Job Coaching Services
For disabled and underserved adults in Northern New Jersey, this program (located in Harrison) provides job readiness, training, job search skills and placement services. Some job coaching is also available to help participants succeed in their new positions.

This program provides direct job placement assistance to individuals who are ready for competitive employment but who need help finding and securing appropriate opportunities. Available in all 5 New York City boroughs. VESID referral required.

Special Education Retail Placement
This program gives older special education students training by working in Goodwill stores. Referred through New York City Board of Education and Suffolk BOCES and arranged in partnership with local rehabilitation agencies in other locations.
NYS Intensive Employment Program for Refugees Living with Disabilities
This program helps refugees with physical and developmental disabilities to integrate into mainstream U.S. culture through their transition to permanent employment and economic self-sufficiency while reducing stigmas and cultural barriers.
The program provides workforce training on core professional/vocational skills, Vocational English Language, and Computer Literacy to maximize participant’s employment potential. Job developers effectively match participant’s skills and capabilities with suitable employment positions. Employment subsidies are available.
